Home Cough Remedies that Work!
We’ve all been there: You’re up in the morning, ready for work, but you just can not seem to keep that persistent cough under control. It’s distracting at work, and leaves everybody on edge when they think about the germs you may be spreading throughout the work place. Here are a couple tried and true home remedy options to get rid of the nasty cough and avoid the ire of your coworkers.
I have compiled these from a variety of reputable sources on home remedies. I always grab one of these solutions when ever I find myself having this condition.
1. Cut a lemon sideways and stuff it with black pepper and salt. Slowly suck the juice from one end. This is an old remedy from Louisiana.
2. Eat a lot of grapes- acids in grapes, like the lemon remedy, tone up the lungs and act as an expectorant, so the mucus in the lungs loosens up. After a day or so you’ll really notice a difference!
3. For a winter cold (the dry cough type) try eating garlic with dinner. I usually roast garlic, onion, olive oil and cayenne pepper with water, and eat it while hot.
4. Combine honey and grape juice and drink this mixture warm. This really helps for that nagging wet cough.
5. Boil mint leaves and eucalyptus in water, and then inhale the vapors. This helps to clear the lungs and break up “gunk” in the sinuses.
6. Drink hot carrot juice. Studies have shown that nutrients in carrot juice can suppress the body’s natural cough reflex. The warm liquid also breaks up congestion from colds.
While you have the symptoms, avoid drinking ice cold drinks; instead drink warm drinks, such as, tea.
Of course, sometimes a really bad case of this respiratory distress can be a sign of a much worse problem that will require more extensive examination to determine the cause and eventual treatment. These home solutions are intended to treat minor conditions from colds. If your condition gets worse or if you have been expelling blood you should see a doctor immediately.
